Walter Ventures launched in 2017 in Canada and continued its global growth by relocating its team and main operations to Spain in 2019.
A business ecosystem
Walter Ventures is part of the Walter Group, a business ecosystem led by the Somers family that represents their interests and values.
Guided by a multigenerational entrepreneurial spirit, the Walter Group has flourished for nearly 70 years. Having started as an industrial company that grew into a leader of its industry, the Group has since evolved into a multifaceted investment firm comprising a team dedicated to public investments, three teams specialized in private equity and a team focusing on new food projects.
At the helm of it all is a team of seasoned operators with strong business acumen and extensive financial insight. This approach empowers the Group to be actively involved in managing its investments, providing a robust and sustainable framework that underpins each of its companies.
Isabelle Somers joined the Walter Group in 2016, where she now holds the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. In addition to this role, she is currently overseeing the development of the Group’s early stage investment platform focused on tech enabled Health and B2B Solutions companies, as Managing Director of Walter Ventures. She is a member of the board of Bloom Diagnostics A.G. (self-diagnostic platform), Flat World Partners (impact investment advisory firm), SPUD Inc. (online organic food distributor and wholesaler and e-commerce grocery delivery platform for third party retailers) and of the Walter Group.
From 2011 to 2014, Ms. Somers started in the Group Strategy at Bombardier Transportation in Berlin, Germany, where she developed PRIMOVE pure electric bus business models and market entry strategies. She later joined the Corporate Audit Service and Risk Assessment department of Bombardier Inc., where she assessed operational and financial risks within its Transportation operations and delivered onsite risk mitigation roadmaps to senior management teams in 12 different countries.
In 2016, Ms. Somers completed her MBA at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, during which, she worked in a smart wearable technology start-up focused on non-medical maternity devices to validate the market need, attract potential investors and secure strategic partnerships. She studied Visual Arts, followed by a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance at Concordia University, in Montreal.
Ms. Somers is an art enthusiast and passionate about culture, food, health and wellness, and is devoted to promoting environmental and agricultural sustainability initiatives.

Albert Font joined Walter Ventures in May 2020. In his role as Investment Manager, he is actively involved with identifying and assessing high potential opportunities, as well as managing part of the existing portfolio.
Before joining Walter Ventures, Albert spent nearly 5 years at Caixa Capital Risc, one of the more active VC funds out of Spain, where he specialized in B2B technology investment, focusing on enterprise software and SaaS models, in fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and others. Albert has served either as a board member or observer in companies such as Vilynx, Simplecloud.io, Qustodio, Nanusens, Datumize and 3D Digital Venues. Earlier in his career he held operational roles, first working in large software integration projects for Accenture, and moving to operations consulting with Europraxis, where he gained exposure to industries such as Energy, Utilities, Telco, and Insurance.
Albert holds a Telecommunication Engineering degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, as well as an MBA from HEC Paris, which included an exchange at USC in Los Angeles, California. He is actively involved in the startup and VC community, with frequent participations in panels and juries in startup events. For the last three years he has also been acting as an Independent Expert for the European Commission, assessing companies opting to renowned grant program EIC - H2020 SME Instrument, as well as a Guest Lecturer in innovation finance for schools like Universitat de Barcelona and EAE Business School.
Sofia Martin has been part of the Walter Ventures’ team since 2019 as an executive assistant to the managing director. In her current position, she is involved in preparing agendas, following up on action items, scheduling meetings and performing a variety of accounting activities.
Before joining Walter Ventures, Ms. Martin worked for 5 years at Alhamra Group as an executive assistant to the CEO and chairman, completing a broad variety of administrative tasks. Prior to this position, she was part of the communications team at the European Parliament, organizing press and political campaign as an intern.
With a bachelor in international business with minor in marketing from Northeastern University (Boston, MA – U.S.A) and Marbella International University (Malaga – Spain), she is currently enrolled on a double master’s degree on project management and business administration.
